Barn Dance, sometimes known as Country Dance, Folk Dance or Ceilidh (pronounced Kay-Ley) Dance, is purely a social dance. There are many forms of dances: Longways, Rounds or Circle, Squares and other less structured dances. All dances are explained. The caller will walk the dancers through the movements so that they have a good idea of what to do before the music starts. The caller also calls out the movements throughout the dance until the dancers have got the hang of it. The object of this is not to learn the dance 'step perfect', it's just to have go and enjoy yourself. Part of the fun to be had is in getting it wrong!
